Are you signed up for the "Do Not Call" list?

To register for the national "Do Not Call" list or if you want to verify if your number is already registered and the date of registration, go to http://www.donotcall.gov/ or call (888) 382-1222.

Once you register your number it will take 31 days to become effective. Having your number registered on the list will ban unsolicited sales calls from companies with which you have no business relationship. Unfortunately political and telephone surveys are not banned.

Some charity calls are allowed but if a third-party telemarketer is making the call for the charity, you can request it no longer call your number for that cause.

You can register your cell phone too! Sorry, the registry is only for personal numbers.

Originally your registration was good for five years and then it had to be renewed. But last month the FTC announced numbers would not expire, pending congressional or agency actions that might make registration permanent.
