Brush Clearance Inspections Begin May 1st

Bel-Air is a hillside community and is also considered a "Very High Fire Hazar Severity Zone." As such property owners are required to keep their property clear of brush hazards. Brush clearance is a year-round responsibility and beginning May 1st the Los Angeles Fire Department will begin brush clearance inspections.

If you have not already done so, now would be a good time to clear your property. Compliance will save you and the LAFD valuable time and effort.

If you have any questions or need more information, please contact the LAFD Brush Clearance Unit at 818-372-1111. You can also go to their website at or visit your local fire station.

Please be advised on Bel-Air Road just north of Copa de Oro, the City has hired a sub-contractor to do emergency sewer repair work to the sewer lines. A detour around the location has been set up. Instead of going straight up Bel-Air Road, you'll need to use St. Cloud to Nimes which loops you around to Bel-Air Road. The work started last Thursday (4/24) and is expected to last through the week. The road is open to traffic at night and there is a large metal plate covering the work area so please be careful when driving through the area. Thank you for your patience.

Draft 2006-2014 Housing Element Released for Public Review

Dear Interested Parties:

The City of Los Angeles/Department of City Planning has released its draft of the 2006-2014 Housing Element Update and invites your review and comments. The Housing Element of the General Plan is the City’s blueprint for meeting its housing and growth challenges, identifying the City’s housing conditions and needs, establishing the goals, objectives, and policies that are the foundation of the City’s housing and growth strategy, and providing the array of programs the City intends to implement to create sustainable, mixed-income neighborhoods across the City.

The document is available for review electronically on the DCP website ( under "What’s New") and by hard copy at the City’s Central and Regional Libraries, Mayor and City Council field offices, and at the DCP public counters. We have scheduled seven public workshops to hear your thoughts, questions, and comments on the Draft Housing Element. A flyer with details about these workshops is also on the DCP website.
