West LAPD - New Police Alert Program

Sergeant David PodestaNew TechnologyDecember 2009

The West Los Angeles Community Police Station is always trying to improve our communication with the community of West Los Angeles. Often times we close down streets due to a natural disaster, such as the mudslide on Sepulveda Blvd. , or we need to evacuate residents, Mountaingate Fire, or we set up a perimeter to catch a criminal, and we don't have the ability to inform you in a timely manner.

Now we have NIXLE. This program allows us to communicate timely, pertinent information to everyone registered within the area we are working in. It can be an area as small as an apartment building to the entire west side.

This program allows you to register your cellphone to multiple addresses, such as your home, work and kids' schools, and receive information via your cellphone. By going to you can register your information. It is a free service. Messages can only be sent to your cellphone by members of emergency services such as the police and fire departments. This program is nationwide so if you have a dependent in college outside the state you can register that address and receive information from the area police.

Most of your questions will be answered on the website. If you want to discuss this with me further please contact me at (310) 444-0743. I will be going to community meetings and discussing this program. If you would like me to stop by with some flyers then call me at the above number.
