Monday February 22, 2016 Hearing on 27-Foot Verizon Wireless Monopoles at 151 and 1349 Stone Canyon Road

Dear Bel-Air Association Members and Community,

The Board of Public Works rescheduled a hearing this Monday, February 22, 2016 on both (1) the appeal of the grant of a variance for a Verizon Wireless 27-foot monopole at 1349 Stone Canyon Road, and (2) the grant of a variance for a Verizon Wireless 27-foot monopole at 101 Stone Canyon Road (near Bellagio Road).

The agendas for the meeting are below and at http://ens.lacity.org/bpw/agendas/bpwagendas86101757_02222016.pdf and http://ens.lacity.org/bpw/agendas/bpwagendas86101796_02222016.pdf. The hearings are at 10:00 a.m. in Room 350 at City Hall. The agenda items are #5 and #7:

5. Recommending Board (1) deny the appeal of the Bureau of Engineering determination to locate an Above Ground Facility adjacent to 1349 North Stone Canyon Road; (2) approve the request for a variance from the height limitation requirements of the AGF Ordinance; and (3) authorize Verizon Wireless to install a 27-foot high mono-pole in the public right-of-way adjacent to 1349 North Stone Canyon Road with the condition that Verizon Wireless work with the appellants to design a mono-pole similar in appearance to the existing street light poles in the area.

7. Recommending Board approve the request for a variance from the height limitation requirements of the Above Ground Facilities Ordinance and allow Verizon to install a 27-foot high steel mono-pole in the public right-of-way adjacent to 151 North Stone Canyon Road.

We will again appear at the hearing to support the condition that Verizon’s contractor use a monopole that is similar in appearance to the existing streetlight poles along Stone Canyon Road.

As we informed you in our prior blog posts, we have already appeared at 3 recent Board of Public Works hearings in support of the affected neighbors on these and other Verizon cell sites on Stone Canyon Road, where we argued for and obtained the same condition and agreement from the Board and Verizon’s contractor.

We have been accomplishing this by consulting and working with the affected community members and Verizon’s contractor, who has cooperated extensively with us. Pictures of the faux streetlight pole that the contractor has proposed at 1349 Stone Canyon Road are attached.

Please let us know if you have any questions about any of the cell towers proposed along Stone Canyon Road, or any other issues in our community.

Sincerely,

Your Bel-Air Association
