Young Artist's Symphony Orchestra Performance February 28, 2016 7:00 PM at UCLA Royce Hall

Dear Bel-Air Association Members and Community:

For all music enthusiasts who are excited about supporting up and coming talent, the Young Artists Symphony Orchestra (YASO) is performing this Sunday in a free concert at UCLA's Royce Hall. YASO is led by Artistic Director Alexander Treger.

The concert will highlight 22-year-old Principal Horn Julian Zheng, an astonishing rising talent and finalist at the recent Berlin Philharmonic Academy of Music audition, in R. Strauss’s masterpiece, the Concerto for Horn No. 1 in E-flat major.

Treger also conducts one of the greatest works of the symphonic repertoire, Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2 in D major.   Sumptuous lyricism, despair, and passionate resurgence echo the dramatic depths and forceful optimism of Finland’s struggle for independence from Russia.  Ginastera’s beautiful Concerto for Strings includes evocative solo passages for each string instrument and a “highly virtuosic scherzo in which virtually every effect known to stringed instruments is imaginatively exploited.” (Henry Shin, YASO Associate Conductor)

The concert begins at 7:00 pm.
